Episode 113: @maxmathforum, part 2

Happy July from Park City, Utah! Been getting some recording done during the busy days here at PCMI and looking forward to TCM13 next week, woo!

This week we hear part 2 of my chat with Max Ray of The Math Forum!

Make sure to answer Max’s question in the comments after you listen:

“What are the external measures of success? what are the things we can measure without tests that would tell us our kids are leaving HS numerate enough?”

Call for submissions!

What did you learn this year? About your Students? Your teaching? Education? Tangents is putting out the call for submissions from youabout your school year for a special Year in Review episode. Maybe you have a sentence or two, maybe you have 10 minutes of thoughts from this year. I recommend using Audacity as you can send me the raw file either via a dropbox connection or another method of your choosing. Thanks in advance!

  1. Great question, Max!

I think one available measure of numeracy is the percentage of recent graduates who run a credit card balance each month.

Anyone with a deep understanding of numeracy is more likely to avoid the trap of 24.99% interest rates.
